Tips and Tricks: Leveling Presets (posted by MusicLaw)
The Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) of the Seventeen (17) Basic Modeled Amps in the (v2) Mustang III/IV/V factory Presets 83 through 99 vary dramatically -- by as much as 10dba with the Mustang's Master Volume set at 3 (or 4)! Many users find it helpful to equalize the Volumes amongst the modeled amp Presets to subsequently customize further and save.
These 17 factory Presets have their FX banks set to "Empty." This presents each modeled amp's unique sound characteristics with its own distinct factory default configuration of parameter value settings.
Measured at a distance of Three Feet (3') perpendicular to the front center of the speaker cabinet an A-weighted, calibrated db meter was used to measure the SPLs of the 17 factory default modeled amp Presets with the (v2) Mustang IV's Master Volume set at 3 and 4. The results are below.
As the Basic Preamp modeled amp (Preset 83) produces the quietest SPL, and has a factory default Preset Volume value setting of 10, this Preset's SPL value was used as the reference. The Preset Volume of each of the other 16 factory default Basic Amp Presets were noted and then attenuated (reduced) to approximately equalize their respective SPLs to that of the Basic Preamp Preset. That information is below.
The test used an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro with both Probucker pickups in the normal phase position with the guitar's vol and tone pots wide open. An open G chord was aggressively strummed repeatedly using a pick to attain the highest SPL. The REMUDA App was used for Amp control values.
